Susan moved to Knoxville from Virginia to attend college at Johnson University where she earned her bachelor’s in Bible and interdisciplinary studies. She then pursued graduate school and received her master’s from Liberty University and a Doctor of Education from Carson-Newman University.

Prior to joining Emerald Youth, Susan taught with Knox County Schools as an English as a Second Language teacher.

She attends Life Church in the Inskip community where she serves as the children's director, and she also provides support to Knoxville Internationals Network on its Youth and Education Team to help immigrant and refugee children/youth living in the Knoxville area.

Away from Emerald, you can find Susan traveling, spending time with family and friends, and hanging out with her dog, Misty Mae, and three cats, Monster, Shadow and Midnight). She’s also known to build some incredible Lego creations!
