2017 Elston Turner Basketball Camp
The 2017 Pro Help Elston Turner Basketball Camp last week was a great success. Hosting more than 90 kids ranging from ages 6-18 years old, the camp taught the fundamentals of basketball and helped them develop life skills.
Elston Turner, assistant head coach for the NBA's Sacramento Kings, has hosted the basketball camp for years as a way to give back to the community in which he grew up.
He excelled at the game while a student athlete at Austin-East High School, leading the Roadrunners to their first state championship in 1977. His success on the high school court was followed by a standout college career at Ole Miss, and then was selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1981 NBA Draft. He played eight years for the Mavericks, Denver Nuggets and Chicago Bulls.
Along with current and former players, coaches, and other volunteers, the Elston Turner Basketball Camp gives kids the opportunity to learn about teamwork, hard work, and good sportsmanship both on and off the field. It is our hope that the kids involved not only become better at the sport, but leave with the knowledge, inspiration, and skills to be succesful in every part of life.
The camp is possible thanks to our partnership with Project Grad Knoxville and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and presenting sponsors Bertelkamp Automation, the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority, and Pilot Flying J.
